Course Content

This course builds on the Hill Navigation Skills course and takes it to the next level. Using the same skills but in Mountainous terrain. We will cover navigation skills and strategies, poor visibility contour interpretation and dealing with the challenge of steep ground. This is an ideal course for those who have completed a Hill and Moorland Leader course and want to build confidence before taking on a Mountain Leader Qualification or for those who want to build on prior knowledge or just building confidence to navigate in the mountains.

Outline of the Day

Meet from 9am for a 9.30am start, maps and compasses will be provided for use during the day. We can also provide waterproof clothing if required. Ratio of 1 instructor to 6 candidates (max). Between 9.30am-4.30pm we will cover around 12km, with rest stops out on the mountain. There will opportunities to practice skills learnt and ask questions.
